Disclaimers & Referral Disclosure
Honest guidance starts with honest limits. This page explains what my guidance can and cannot do, and why every recommendation I make is free of referral fees, commissions and sponsorships.
Why this page exists
I offer free, practical guidance based on more than 25 years of building businesses, and on the lessons that came with the successes and the failures. That experience can be genuinely useful. It also has limits, and you deserve to know them clearly before you rely on anything I say or write.
This page applies to everything on nathanvaknin.com, including articles, guides, tool roundups and news, and to every conversation that starts through the site. It forms part of the Terms of Use.
General information only
Everything shared on this website and in conversations is general information and personal perspective, offered for educational and practical purposes. It is based on my own experience and on information I believe to be reliable at the time I share it.
General information cannot account for the full detail of your circumstances. Two people who ask the same question may need very different answers, depending on their finances, health, location, obligations and goals. Please treat what you read and hear as a starting point for your own thinking, not as instructions to follow.
Experience, not a full picture of your situation
My perspective comes from real experience across retail, manufacturing, fashion, wholesale, insurance, marketing, business growth, AI and finance. Experience is valuable, but it is also shaped by the particular companies, markets and moments I have lived through. What worked for me in one situation may not transfer neatly to yours.
In a conversation, I only know what you tell me, and usually within a limited amount of time. I may not see every factor that matters, and I may simply be wrong. That is another reason to test ideas carefully and to combine my perspective with advice from people who know your situation in depth.
Not professional advice
I am not a licensed professional in any regulated field, and nothing on this website or in our conversations is, or should be treated as:
- Medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
- Psychological, psychiatric, counseling or therapy services.
- Legal advice or legal representation.
- Tax or accounting advice.
- Investment, securities or financial planning advice.
- Insurance advice.
- Any other regulated financial or professional service.
Before making decisions in these areas, please consult an appropriately licensed professional who can review your situation in full. When I can tell that you need specialist help, I will say so plainly and, where possible, suggest the kind of professional to look for.
Your wellbeing comes first
Some people reach out during hard seasons of life. I am glad to listen, and I take that trust seriously. But these conversations are not a crisis service, and they are not a substitute for mental health care.
If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself, or feel unsafe, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right away. You deserve immediate support from people trained to provide it.
Business and financial decisions
Much of the guidance on this site concerns running a business: operations, marketing, hiring, automation, pricing and growth. Every business decision carries risk, and a strategy that worked for one company can fail for another because of timing, market conditions, funding or execution.
Any figures, examples or scenarios I share are illustrations, not predictions. You remain fully responsible for the decisions you make in your business and for their results, including decisions about money, contracts, staff and compliance.
No guarantees of results
I cannot promise any particular outcome from reading this website or speaking with me. That includes financial improvement, business growth, a new job, a resolved relationship, or any personal change. When I describe my own past results, or share stories and examples, they reflect specific situations and are not typical or guaranteed outcomes for anyone else.
Stories, examples and testimonials
Articles on this site use stories and examples to make ideas easier to understand. Some are drawn from my own experience, some combine several situations into one, and some are simplified or hypothetical. Details may be changed to protect privacy. They are there to illustrate a point, not to describe what will happen for you.
If the site ever shares a comment or testimonial from someone I have spoken with, it will reflect that person’s honest experience, published with their permission. One person’s experience is not evidence that anyone else will get the same result.
Laws, markets and tools change
Tax rules, employment law, financial regulations, platform policies and market conditions change regularly and differ from place to place. An article that was accurate when it was written may no longer apply, or may never have applied where you live. Always confirm time sensitive or location specific information with an up to date, qualified source before you act on it.
Referral disclosure
This is the part of the page that matters most to me, so I want to be completely explicit.
Nathan Vaknin does not accept, and has never accepted through this website, any of the following in exchange for recommending or connecting visitors with people, companies, tools or resources:
- Referral fees or finder fees.
- Commissions or revenue sharing.
- Affiliate payments or affiliate links.
- Sponsorships or paid placements.
- Gifts, free products or services, or discounts offered in return for recommendations.
- Any other form of compensation or benefit.
Every recommendation I make is independent, and I make it only because I think it may help you. No company pays to be mentioned on this site, and no article is sponsored.
If this ever changes, for example if a link on the site ever earned money, it would be disclosed clearly and prominently right next to that link, before you clicked it, in line with consumer protection rules on endorsements.
Conflicts of interest
Beyond refusing referral fees, I try to avoid conflicts of interest altogether. I have business interests of my own, as most entrepreneurs do. If a question ever touches a company, product or person I am personally involved with, invests in, or have a close relationship with, I will tell you before offering any view, so you can weigh my opinion with that in mind.
Introductions to other people
Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is introduce you to someone else. I only make an introduction when you ask for one or agree to it, and I share only the information needed. Once you are connected, any arrangement between you and that person is entirely between the two of you. I am not a party to it, I do not supervise it, and I am not responsible for the advice, services or results that come from it.
What a recommendation means
When I suggest a person, business, tool, book or community, I am sharing my honest opinion at that moment. A recommendation is not a guarantee of quality or results. It is not an endorsement of everything that provider does, and it does not create a partnership or a formal referral relationship.
Providers change their prices, policies and quality over time, and what suits one person may not suit another. Please do your own research, read reviews and terms, and make your own decision before engaging with any recommended person, company or service.
Outside websites and tools
This site links to outside websites and uses outside services such as a scheduling tool. I do not control those services and am not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices. Visiting them is at your own discretion.
A note on AI and technology advice
Some articles discuss AI tools and automation. Technology changes quickly, and a tool that is reliable today may change or disappear. Always check current features, pricing and data handling before adopting a tool. Never put sensitive customer, financial or personal information into any tool without understanding how that information is stored and used.
A free service, offered in good faith
These conversations are free because I believe experience is worth sharing. Offering them for free does not lower the care I put into them. It does mean they are informal, voluntary and limited by my own time, and that they come without the guarantees, insurance or professional duties that apply when you hire a licensed adviser.
Accuracy and updates
I try to keep the content accurate and current, and I review articles from time to time. Even so, errors happen and information can go out of date. If you spot something that looks wrong, please let me know at hello@nathanvaknin.com and I will correct it.
Your judgment and your decisions
The heart of this service is a simple idea: you know your own life and business better than anyone. My role is to listen, ask good questions and share an honest perspective. Your role is to weigh that perspective against everything else you know, and to decide what is right for you. Every decision you make, and its consequences, remains yours.
Questions
If you have a question about this page, about how I make recommendations, or about whether I have any connection to a particular company, email hello@nathanvaknin.com. I will always give you a direct answer.
